1.1 Barium sulfate turbidimetry
1.1.1 Scope
This standard specifies the use of barium sulfate turbidimetry to determine sulfate in drinking water and its source water. This method is applicable to the determination of soluble sulfates in drinking water and its source water The minimum detection mass of this method is 0.25mg. If 50 mL of water sample is taken for stripping、 the minimum detection mass concentration is 5.0 mg/L This method is applicable to the determination of water samples with sulfate content below 40 mg/L. The stirring speed、 time、 temperature、 and reagent addition method can all affect the measurement results of turbidimetry、 so strict control of operating conditions is required
1.1.2 Principle
Sulfates and barium ions in water form barium sulfate precipitates、 forming turbidity. The degree of turbidity is directly proportional to the sulfate content in the water sample.
