DIN 5510-2 is about the flame retardant requirements for raw materials and accessories used in railway vehicles. The required indicators include combustion characteristics and combustion boundary effects (smoke formation and droplet state) smoke toxicity. The standard specifies the combustion characteristic level、 smoke impact level、 droplet state level、 and toxicity index of materials or components. The requirements for electrical fire prevention are standardized、 which is a relatively scientific and systematic flame retardant regulation and is widely used in practice. Test wires and cables (EN 60332-1-2、 EN 50266-2-4/5、 EN 61034、 EN 50305) p>
Scope of Application
This standard applies to railway vehicles、 which fall within the effective scope of the Railway Construction and Operation Regulations (EBO)、 Narrow Gauge Railway Construction and Operation Regulations (ESBO)、 Maglev Railway Construction and Operation Regulations (MbBO)、 and Tram Construction and Operation Regulations (BOSstrab) p>
This standard has established the following objectives:
- Classification of combustion characteristics and combustion concurrent phenomena、
- Necessary testing methods for this
- Necessary requirements for the combustion characteristics and combustion concurrent phenomena of materials and components used in the manufacturing of vehicles to prevent fires.

Standard Overview
In order to classify the combustion characteristics and combustion concurrent phenomena (smoke formation、 droplet characteristics) of materials and components、 flammability、 smoke and droplet levels were generated、 and toxicity indices were determined in the form of allowable exposure time.
. These levels are used to determine the requirements for flammability and combustion concurrency of materials and components used in the manufacturing of vehicles p>DIN 5510-2 German locomotive fire test mainly focuses on the following aspects:
1. Combustion level test
(1) S1 combustion level test - (handles、 handrails、 etc.) Small components
Test method: DIN 53438-1、 DIN 53438-2、 DIN 53438-3
Level evaluation: Measure from the point of flame strike of the spray lamp、 and the flame peak formed on small components should not exceed 15cm.

Test method: DIN 54837- Materials and components for railway vehicles - Combustion characteristics test method
Level evaluation: S2-S5 (S2: failure length ≤ 30cm; S3: failure length ≤ 25cm and post combustion time ≤ 100s; S3: failure length ≤ 20cm and post combustion time ≤ 10s; S5: failure length=0cm and post combustion time=0s)

Combustion level SF1 SF2 SF3
Critical heat radiation ≥ 2.5KW/m2 ≥ 2.5KW/m2 ≥ 4.5KW/m2
No requirement for light attenuation integral ≤ 2500 (% * min) ≤ 750 (% * min)
(4) Seat combustion level test
Test method: DIN EN 120 1-1 and DIN EN 1201-2
(5) Fire rating test for electronic components
Test method: DIN EN ISO 4589-2 or DIN EN 60695-11-10
Level evaluation: Oxygen index OI ≥ 28% or 30%
(6) Wire and cable combustion level test
Test method: DIN EN 60332-1-2 single cable vertical flame combustion test
DIN EN 50266-2-4/DIN EN 50266-2-4 multiple bundle vertical flame combustion test
DIN EN 61034-1/DIN EN 61034-2 smoke density test

2. Smoke development level test:
If the combustion level is S2-S5 during the combustion test、 Further testing is required for the development level of cigarettes p>
Test method: DIN 54837
Level evaluation: SR1 not reached、 SR1、 SR2
SR1 not reached:>100 (% * min); SR1: ≤ 100 (% * min); SR2: ≤ 50 (% * min)
3. Droplet level test:
When conducting tests according to DIN 54837、 it is necessary to confirm whether the material will experience droplet drop phenomenon p>
Test method: DIN 54837
Grade evaluation: ST1-ST2
ST1: Production of molten droplets、 ST2: Average residual flame time when no molten droplets are generated or there are droplets during combustion does not exceed 20s
4. Toxicity test
Test method: DIN EN ISO 5659-2
